India denies Kashmiris the right to gather for fifth consecutive Friday congregation

On November 10th, India banned congregational prayers at the historic Jamia mosque, the main mosque in Kashmir valley’s capital Srinagar.

This is the fifth consecutive Friday that congregational prayers have not been allowed in the mosque.

The mosque was locked up by the military personnel and armed troops were deployed around the mosque, preventing worshippers from gathering to pray.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the head cleric of Kashmir who leads the mosque, was also placed under house-arrest on the same day.
