Maulana Mushtaq Veeri Still Imprisoned

Prominent Kashmiri public speaker, religious scholar and vice-president of Jamiat Ahlihadith Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri was booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for allegedly preaching a “radical ideology and instigating youth into carrying out anti-national activities”.

Mushtaq, 41, who hails from Veeri village of Bijbehara, was arrested from his home on February 22, 2019 and lodged in Bijbehera police station.

He was later shifted to district jail Mattan in Anantnag district.

A police official said the authorities booked him under PSA and shifted him to Kathua Jail in Jammu division.

Veeri is a chief Khateeb at the Jamia Masjid Jamiat-i-Ahlihadith, Sherbagh in Anantnag town and has a huge following.

It is reported by reliable sources that Maulana Veeri is kept in the company of prisoners infected with COVID-19 and has not been isolated despite consistent requests to concerned authorities.
