Kashmiri lawyers summoned by High Court over false charges of “misconduct”
On 23rd November, the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court issued a summon notice to its three advocates after a complaint regarding committing “professional and other misconduct” was filed by Secretary to the Government, Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Achal Sethi. The three advocates are Mian Abdul Qayoom, Ghulam Nabi Thoker and Nazir Ahmad Ronga. The three lawyers were accused of supporting Kashmir’s right to self-determination. It is pertinent to note that previously Mian Abdul Qayoom faced months of illegal detention for his political views and his legal assistance to the victims of Indian injustices. The summon is seen by legal analysts as the first step towards the revocation of their legal licenses.[14]
