Writers, scholars raise concerns over shrinking space for dissent in Kashmir SRINAGAR, Jammu and Kashmir…
On August 17th, the Chief Electoral Officer of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir Hirdesh Kumar announced that after abrogation of Article-370, every citizen of India who lives in Kashmir, for job, education, or business purpose, can cast vote in the upcoming assembly elections in the occupied territory. He further added that he expects that these additional voters would amount to over 2 million voters. As a result of this move, Indian occupying troops can also cast their vote in Kashmir. The move, broadly speaking, is preparing ground for instituting a Hindu-dominant assembly in Kashmir, institutionalizing Hindu supremacy and embedding it in the state structures and at the same time, maintaining a democratic charade to show the world.[14]
