India falsely portrays Kashmiri illegal detainees as combatants

On the same day, Indian forces in Kashmir claimed to have arrested three Kashmiri boys who were presented as ‘over-ground workers’, a term created by the Indian state to refer to those Kashmiris who support or sympathize with the indigenous armed struggle for self-determination. The term has often been used to justify the illegal detention of Kashmiri civilians. The Indian forces claimed to have recovered ammunition from the detained Kashmiri boys. The families of the three Kashmiri boys, who spoke to us, however, state that the three had been detained by the Indian forces more than 3 months ago. The boys were in prison and were taken to the site and set-up for a propaganda shoot, in which the fake announcement of ammunition recovery was made.[18]
