Justice for All mourns the passing of Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, veteran Kashmiri leader
Chicago, United States — Justice for All expresses deep sorrow at the passing of Professor Abdul Gani Bhat, an esteemed Kashmiri scholar and political leader who dedicated his life to advancing the rights and dignity of the Kashmiri people. Prof Bhat passed away on Wednesday evening at his home in Botingoo, Sopore, at the age of 90, following a brief illness.
Prof Bhat was a towering figure in Jammu and Kashmir’s self-determination movement. Beginning his public career as a co-founder of the Muslim United Front in 1986, he later became a central member of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, where he also served as chairman. Throughout decades of political engagement, he remained a principled advocate for peaceful dialogue and the right of Kashmiris to determine their own future.
Before entering politics, Prof Bhat was a respected academic, teaching Persian literature for more than two decades. His sharp intellect, moderation, and unwavering commitment to justice earned him respect across political and social divides.
