5 Freedom Fighters Killed by the Indian State

On 17th June, five freedom fighters were killed in a gunfight with Indian occupation forces in northern Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Additional Director General of Kashmir Police Vijay Kumar held that those killed were foreign “militants”. The Indian state has for long labeled native freedom fighters in Kashmir as Pakistan proxies, in order to delegitimize their demand for right to self-determination.

The bodies of the killed fighters are withheld by India and the family members are not allowed to bury them and perform their funeral rites, in violation of the Geneva Conventions.
