The Indian military killed three Kashmiri civilians in Machil, Kupwara, and falsely claimed them to be “Pakistani terrorists.” In June, 17-year-old Tufail Mattoo was killed in Srinagar when Indian forces shot his head with a teargas shell. His death led to an intense months-long civilian uprising. Indian forces respond by killing more than 100 young Kashmiris during protests.
