Kashmiri socio-religious activist arrested amid raids by Indian agencies on educational institutions

On the same day, the National Investigation Agency of India arrested the chairperson of Al-Huda Educational Trust (AHET), Mohammad Ameer Shamshi, under the draconian Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, as the agency carried out searches in eight districts of Jammu and Kashmir. AHET is an Islamic social and educational welfare organization responsible for setting up schools for the needy and rehabilitation centers across Kashmir valley. The detention and the raids are part of India’s recent crackdown on Islamic clerics, scholars, and educational institutions in Kashmir.[6]
