India’s Special Investigation Unit files chargesheet against 13 Kashmiri civilians and freedom fighters, seizes many residential properties
On December 2nd, Jammu and Kashmir police’s Special Investigation Unit produced a chargesheet against 13 Kashmiris, including three slain pro-freedom fighters, under the draconian Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The houses of many (number not specified) Kashmiri civilians were also seized by the Indian state after they were accused of providing shelter to the pro-freedom armed fighters. The seizure of the houses was done under the UAPA as well, a law that has been used systematically against Muslims, particularly Kashmiris, to quell any dissent against the state atrocities and suppress the right to self-determination movement.[1]
